Moses
Livingston, a name that rings in the ears of avid reggae fans all over the Philadelphia area, has resurfaced with a fresh, “up-to-the-time”,
and sunny approach to his music. “Give the Fans what they want” and that is the very best in reggae sound and
vibes. Incorporating touches of dancehall, culture, and rhythm & blues, Moses is apt to take Philadelphia reggae by storm with no prisoners.
Refusing
to succumb to the commerciality of the Music Business, Moses has kept his music independent and home-grown while building
a strong fan base. His continual collaboration with seasoned vocalists and musicians has allowed Moses and his band to stand
the test of time, for we all know the phenomena of music-making is inconsistent and often-times very short-lived. Not so for
Moses. He has been featured on some of the most influential recordings including, but not limited to “Dem Bow”
featuring Rappa Robert and Tippa Lee. His independent albums, “Black Ting” and “Let My Dread Grow”
(with the hit single; “Trying to Make a Fool of Me”, featuring the Legendary Delfonics) have received much airplay
from our areas hottest reggae DJ’s. Recently, Moses recorded multiple tracks for Lion I Reggae Jams Volume 1, and collaborated
with the Honorable Luciano on one of those tracks.
Members
of his band have included Tara Michel, former background singer for Lauryn Hill, and presently a background singer for John
Legend (who has occasionally sat in with Moses’ band on keys). Pablo Fakhourie, a venerable producer and also bass player
for Lauryn Hill.
Hailing
from Trelawney, Jamaica, West Indies, Moses
came to the United States in 1978. After
a transitory stay in Chicago, Moses settled in Philadelphia
and formed, Moses Livingston and the Raggamuffin Band. He and his band have toured across the entire eastern seaboard, the
mid-west, and the south. As for Philadelphia, Moses has played
some of the hottest spots over the years. More recently, NXNW, Doc Watson’s, TLA, and World Café Live to name a few.
With a capable and talented band backing him, Moses Livingston is still a force to be reckoned with.
